DISSEMINATION
Information
Dissemination: Significant daily information is generated on
international transport matters in the form of correspondence, cable
traffic, print media and others. X-20 serves to disseminate this information
to appropriate DOT offices.
Activity: Ensure that information on international
transport issues is properly disseminated throughout the Department
and externally.
Background:
The X Office serves as the Department’s information source concerning
international transportation matters. Our role is well known to U.S.
agencies, foreign embassies, and industry with whom we liaison. X-20
is often the focal point for the exchange of information pertaining
to the Department’s many international activities. In this regard,
X-20, through its international contacts in the modal administrations,
expeditiously disseminates such information throughout the Department.
Information
received by X-20 may take the form of correspondence, telephone calls,
fax, or print media. Such information would include Department of State
travel advisories, advance notification of visitors, changes in foreign
cabinet appointments, and transportation related tragedy. X-20’s
information dissemination function is not only relegated to externally
received information, but also includes notifying DOT and external counterparts,
of changes in DOT policies and procedures affecting international activities.
Additionally, X-20 is responsible for disseminating, to appropriate
DOT offices, the daily classified/unclassified transportation-related
telegraphic messages from U.S. embassies around the world.
